Kings Bar + Grill
About us
Our family is proud to bring you Kings Bar and Grill, a long time legacy of love! We've been in the Spokane service industry since 1944, when Gene Baldwin got his very first bartending job after returning from military service with the Army.
He traded in his boots for beers and brought a practical, down home approach to his local watering hole. In the 1960s he met Marilyn, and they eventually got hitched! They started in the bar business at the Hi Neighbor during the 1970s and then together they opened their own bar: The Lucky Penny! Known for amazing food and good times with great people, the Lucky Penny took the Baldwins through many years and a big move, in 1986 when the whole building was picked up and moved to Greenacres and the business itself moved across the Trent street bridge. They raised a pack of children and just lived their loving lives. Eventually Gene passed on, and Marilyn turned to her son Rob to help keep the family affair afloat. He said 'no.' A decade or so passed, and so too did Marilyn. Papa Rob always held that regret in his heart, of not stepping up to pick up the Penny. It was his dream to undo this deed, and his wife Brenda joined him in this ambition. They worked all kinds of jobs, most often in the service industry, from hotels to fast food and everything in between! They learned, they earned, and they raised their own bushel of babies, and told them the stories of what came before. Finally, in 2015, the two made their dream come true and opened King's Bar and Grill, named for Rob's father Gene King! We opened up, managed by Heather and Tazshra Baldwin, worked by a pack of friends and family, getting along as best we could with what little resources we had! Today we have an amazing crew of employees and regulars who bring joy and success to our happy home. We still serve fantastic food, love to sing and play games, and to work hard every day to keep this community kickin'! We our proud of our people and of our roots, and excited to see what comes next! We laugh loud, talk straight and love with our whole hearts. We welcome all folks, and find friendship in everything we do! We are waiting to welcome you, so come see us soon! Love, Brenda Baldwin & Family.
